Packing & Unpacking Services

The selection of packing materials depends on the type and nature of the items being moved. We evaluate each item based on its size, shape, weight, fragility, and value. For instance, delicate glassware may be wrapped in bubble wrap and packed in boxes filled with foam peanuts for extra cushioning. Furniture might be covered with moving blankets or plastic wrap to prevent scratches and dents. Electronics could be packed in anti-static bubble wrap to safeguard against static electricity. In essence, we customize the packing process for each item to ensure it receives the most effective protection during transit.

If you prefer to handle your own packing, our Packed by Owner (PBO) policy applies. This means that Low Budget Moving and Storage is not liable for the contents of PBO boxes, unless it's clear that we've mishandled them or been negligent. Here are some guidelines to follow:

1. Pack all items that fit into a standard carton (1.5 to 6 cubic ft.), such as lamp shades, electronics, decor, etc. Exceptions include very heavy items like weights and floor speakers.

2. Use new or "like-new" boxes. Never use deteriorating or crumpled boxes.

3. Seal all boxes with a lid and secure them with professional packing tape. Label each box with its contents and the room where it should be delivered. Where applicable, label boxes "fragile" and indicate the correct upright position with arrows.

4. Keep each box under 50 lbs. Don't over-pack, but do fill each box to the top. Use small boxes for heavy items like books and records, and large boxes for light items like linens and bedding. Pack dishes, glasses, and fragile items in small cartons or specialty dish packs.

Ideally, you should book our packing and unpacking services at least 2-4 weeks before your planned move date. This helps us make sure that our team is available on the day you need them and allows us to plan accordingly for a smooth move. However, we understand that last-minute needs can arise. In such cases, we urge you to contact us as soon as possible, and we will do our utmost to accommodate your requirements, even on short notice. Our goal is to be flexible and responsive to our customers' needs, no matter the circumstances.
